Used as counterweights on drape rigging to help stabilise the rigging.
Shotbags are tough bags full of, well, shot and they weigh ten kilos each and are ideal to keep base plates firmly on the ground. Shotbags have a multitude of uses, they are often used to weigh down sidewalk cafe barriers, they are great to stop bass drums from slipping during a performance, and as weights for lighting and mic stands.
